I am feeling as though I may be coming to the end of the current series I am working on. I now have about nine pieces total....five larger and four smaller. This will be just the right amount for the two shows I have coming up. So now, I need to decide what to do next. In the past I have always jumped from one thing to something totally different. I'm not sure if this is a good thing or not. One one hand experimentation is good. I love to challenge myself in this way. On the other...I want to be able to push myself in terms of my craft. Get to the next level. I'm not sure how to keep my work cohesive and experimental at the same time. Very tricky. I am thinking I want to re-explore texture. Perhaps with oil paint. I'm not sure yet.

So I have been working on composition lately. Its my weak spot for sure. I went thru a ton of my digital photos and found a wealth of material there...right under my nose. I have also been reading a lot about painting technique lately. I am focusing focusing focusing. I have spent a lot of time making mixed media collages and trying out printmaking and a whole bunch of other crafts and am ready to focus on painting, which is my calling. I want to learn more about my craft. I want to become an expert ya know?

Yesterday I left the studio feeling blah. I didn't like what I did. I think the composition needs to be tighter. At this point in my life I am not opposed to scraping all the paint off and starting over. I used to just keep going on top of old layers but I think that was contributing to the 'overworked' look that many of my older paintings had (at least in my opinion).

In other news I am OBSESSED with marketing. I'm really gearing up for fall. Anyone out there interested in an LJ community for art marketing?

In trying to get my feet wet again with making art to sell I thought I'd ask if anyone was interested in a project I have had in the back of my mind for a while. Last year I painted a portrait of a friend (viggie) from a picture. I thought I might ask if there were any of you out there who would like a portrait like this of yourself or a loved one. The size would be 12" x 12". It would be oil on gallery wrapped canvas with painted edges, ready to hang. I would charge on a sliding scale based on what people could afford.

Hi remember me? I kept a really low profile this summer cuz I wanted to spend more time with DS. Now, as the end of summer draws near, I am looking forward to making more art, (hopefully) selling more art and generally getting inspired. I have been working on some printmaking techniques this summer and I have learned a lot. One major thing I've learned is that I will **never** be a master printmaker. And that's okay because it has been fun. I have also been working on a commission that I am going to put the finishing touches on tonight. I feel ready to cycle into something new and am not sure what.

I have been very unsatisfied with all of my fiber/textile projects as of late and have decided that is a sign that I need to step back from them. So I have been working on a new series of paintings that are all about TEXTURE! I loooooooovvvvvvvveeeeeee texture. If you'd like to see them please go take a peek.

http://homepage.mac.com/mmorbeto/deb/PhotoAlbum114.html

My sewing machine and I are getting along much better these days!

A painting

I made this last night and had a blast doing it. First I went crazy painting some old fabric I had. Then I cut it up into strips and wove it together. I need to finish the edges somehow but am not sure yet. I want to make more of these cuz it was really fun.

Hello hello hello! This has been a weird week. At times I have felt very creative and productive and at others have felt like I was about to get blocked. I hate it when I get blocked. I am always walking a fine line between inspired and bored. I am that way all around I suppose. My latest obsession is my heat gun. I have been melting everything in sight. Paint. Fabric. Yarn. Plastic. Anything! The possibilities are endless (which is something I like very much!). I still feel like I am a tad frustrated as a mixed media artist and am experimenting a lot. I always paint to keep myself reminded of what I know I can do. Sort of like a warm up before an intense work out....or perhaps a cool down after a long run. So anyway...

the following pic is my entry this week for fiber_friday

First of all I want to thank all of you that responded with suggestions for non traditional painting stuffs. They were fantastic! I don't know what I'll try yet but I am brimming with ideas.

I have a new friend. She is a heat gun. Last night I spent a lot of time heating things. Melting stuff is fun!! I have been into working with small stuff this week. Beads, wire, pieces of fabric and yarn. I have made several pins which is something totally different for me. I really like them but am not sure if I want to try and sell them. I am very confident as a painter but I'm no jeweler. Anyway here are some pics....
