So I have been working on composition lately. Its my weak spot for sure. I went thru a ton of my digital photos and found a wealth of material there...right under my nose. I have also been reading a lot about painting technique lately. I am focusing focusing focusing. I have spent a lot of time making mixed media collages and trying out printmaking and a whole bunch of other crafts and am ready to focus on painting, which is my calling. I want to learn more about my craft. I want to become an expert ya know?

Yesterday I left the studio feeling blah. I didn't like what I did. I think the composition needs to be tighter. At this point in my life I am not opposed to scraping all the paint off and starting over. I used to just keep going on top of old layers but I think that was contributing to the 'overworked' look that many of my older paintings had (at least in my opinion).

In other news I am OBSESSED with marketing. I'm really gearing up for fall. Anyone out there interested in an LJ community for art marketing?

I really like that painting! The sky is really wonderful, in my humble opinion.

I *like* it. It feels sort of fantasyish...Alice In Wonderland, I think.

I've missed your work. I'm glad you're painting again. I'm also glad you took time off and recharged. :)

Yes!

That and I just can't get enough of composition talk too, please tell me more about it, where you thought process is now. It's something that I'm struggling with myself, reading up, thinking on, but it would be wonderful to have someoen to discuss it with.

Well I have always painted letting the color lead the way. I took all the proper drawing classes in art school but I've always considered myself a colorist first. So yeah...I know how to draw (not great tho) but it never came into play. So now I'm at a crossroads. I've been making abstract art (much of it based on collage) for a long time and want to streamline a bit. Push myself with my favorite media. But in order to do so I think I need to deal with composition. I just can't ignore it. So I went thru all my digi photos and marked the ones that had good potential. I still want to paint abstract but I want some structure. Perhaps the structure can help me push the paint further. I've always painted in an open space (objects on canvas in a space without defined edges) and I want to challenge that. So we'll see how it goes. How about you?

Did you ever do the art marketing group? I'm starting to sell art again and I'm looking for some good LJ groups on it, and none seem very active.
